The Hörnum Easter Bonfire
Though a much more recent tradition than the Biike Bonfire, the Easter Bonfire is now firmly established in Hörnum and attracts between 2,000 and 3,000 visitors, providing the Easter celebrations with an atmospheric backdrop unique to the people of Sylt. The Hörnum locals and their guests meet from 8 pm on Easter Saturday at the Hörnum Fire Station (on the corner of Rantumer Strasse and Steintal); torches can be purchased there for €2. The torch-lit procession then makes its way to the campsite in the dunes, where the Easter Bonfire is lit around 8.30 pm. To crown the evening, a band plays live open air music until late!
The proceeds from drink sales go to Hörnum’s Volunteer Fire Brigade.
